No Nitelinks in Maynooth?

NUI Maynooth is known for having an exciting nightlife. The Maynooth main street is home to many pub/clubs such as Mantra, Bradys, Roost and O’Neil’s.  The studen t union attracts students every night looking to have a good time. The town is packed every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday night. NUI Maynooth is one of the best colleges in Ireland for nightlife because of the selection these clubs, conveniently located on the main street.

With a huge numbers of students out each night, the taxi services in Maynooth have great business. All Students not living in Maynooth are required to get a taxi home because there is no bus service nitelink, this is my concern. Dublin bus has a total of 18 Nitelink routes, departing from Westmoreland Street and D’Olier Street every Friday and Saturday night. These are the nights that clubs in Dublin City have the most customers. The clubs in Maynooth have plenty of customers on a Monday, Wednesday and Thursday night for there to be enough demand for a nitelink service. Students are on a budget and taxis cost a great deal more than bus nitelinks. Dublin bus charges a fair price of €5.00 fare for the Dublin City Nitelink. I suggest that Dublin bus should begin a Nitelink service from Maynooth town on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday nights, I am confident that there is a target market for this service and profit to be made by Dublin bus.

The importance of Professional connections

As a second year student of Business and Management I have come to realise the importance of connections in the business world. I have never really experienced the consequences of personal connections, any part-time job I have ever had I have got on my own accord, but this is not the same for most. I’ve had jobs in Champion, Oasis and Compass Group and I got these jobs myself by applying online and in store not from simply knowing the right person. But as everyone knows, having the right connections is very beneficial in the business world.

For my E-marketing module, we are required to set up a LinkedIn account and to get 50 connections. I had never heard of LinkedIn, a way on managing your professional identity. Engaging with connections on a professional network will offer many opportunities to my classmates and I. The fact that there is a website to contact connections demonstrates the need for connections.

I started thinking of this when I was working at the Ireland v Italy match two weeks ago in the corporate boxes at Aviva Stadium. As I waited outside the box for guests to arrive Fiacra Nagle walked by and stopped to talk to me.  Fiacra introduced himself as the Managing Director of Compass Group Ireland. I had never met him before and was shocked to be talking to such an important person of Compass. When he heard that Certus, a provider of bank organisations outsourcing in the Irish market was in the box I was serving, he assured me to take special care of these guests and make sure they were well looked after and kept happy. Fiacra wanted Certus to experience Compass Catering to the highest quality because he was trying to sign a deal with them. Compass either wanted to establish a professional connection with Certus, or strengthen a current connection.
